Timed work blocks with deliberate breaks are a scheduling aid rather than a treatment for attention difficulties. Meta-analytic evidence suggests short breaks are associated with modest gains in vigour and reduced fatigue, with less consistent effects on performance [1], and brief interruptions of a long task have been shown in laboratory work to reduce vigilance decrement [2]. No specific interval, including 25 minutes, has good evidence behind it; the useful part is a defined start, a defined stop and a real break.
